HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Okay, I really don't have any New Year pictures, but here's to a happy, safe and prosperous New Year!I will be back to blogging - I hope - by tomorrow.
Monday's Times carried a major expose on child molesters who use the
Internet....
In order to report the story, the Times said it obtained:
— copies of online conversations and e-mail messages between minors and the
creepy adults;
— records of payments to the minors;
— membership lists for Webcam sites;....
BAGHDAD, Iraq —
...The prosecution's first witness Wednesday was a man who testified about
killings and torture in Dujail after the attempt to assassinate Saddam. Ali
Hassan Mohammed al-Haidari, who was 14 in 1982...
Al-Haidari... testified that seven of his brothers
were executed by Saddam's regime and their bodies have not been
found.
Al-Haidari said that he and other residents from Dujail — including
family members — were taken to Baghdad and thrown into a security services
prison, where people from "9 to 90" were held.
Blood poured from head wounds
and skin was pale from electric shocks, he testified. Security officials would
drip melted plastic hoses on detainees, only to pull it off after it cooled,
tearing skin off with it, he said.
"I cannot express all that suffering and
pain we faced in the 70 days inside," he said.
While the editorial page of The Wall
Street Journal is conservative, the newspaper's news pages are liberal, even
more liberal than The New York Times. The Drudge Report may have a right-wing
reputation, but it leans left. Coverage by public television and radio is
conservative compared to the rest of the mainstream media. Meanwhile, almost all
major media outlets tilt to the left.
Of the 20 major media outlets studied,
18 scored left of center, with CBS' "Evening News," The New York Times and the
Los Angeles Times ranking second, third and fourth most liberal behind the news
pages of The Wall Street Journal.
Actor Morgan Freeman has a solution to the problem of racism – "Stop talking
about it!" ... "I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask
you to stop calling me a black man," he says. "I know you as Mike Wallace. You
know me as Morgan Freeman.... The actor also criticizes Black History Month,
saying setting aside a special month actually segregates black history from
American history. Calling the idea "ridiculous," Freeman notes there's no "white
history month."
"You're going to relegate my history to a month?" Freeman
asks Wallace. "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American
history," he says.
I'm getting a little insulted that no Democratic prosecutor has indicted me.
Liberals bring trumped-up criminal charges against all the most dangerous
conservatives. Why not me?... I note that nobody ever wanted to indict Bob Dole or Gerald Ford (except, of course, other Republicans)... Charges like these are not brought at random. They are brought against people who pose the greatest threat to liberals. (What am I? Miss Congeniality?)
BAGHDAD, Iraq — Up to 15 million Iraqis — including large numbers
of Sunnis, who boycotted the January elections — voted in historic
parliamentary
elections Thursday amid only scattered violence.
The
polls
stayed open one
hour later, until 6 p.m. local time (10 a.m. EST),
because
of such high turnout.
Long lines were reported in some
precincts, said
commission official Munthur
Abdelamir, some of which
wrapped around
neighborhood blocks. The commission said
results will be
announced within
two weeks.
"Starting with the Vietnam War we began training soldiers differently," the
anti-American actress says in an email to the Washington Post.
Fonda claims
she learned of the policy switch in "secret meetings" she had with military
psychologists "who were really worried about what was happening to our combat
personnel."
One doctor, she insists, told her U.S. troops had been
deliberately trained to be "killing machines."... This began," Fonda maintained,
"because the military discovered that in World War II and Korea, [U.S.] soldiers
weren't killing enough."
"So they changed training procedures" to
teach troops how to commit atrocities. ...Fonda lamented: "When you put
young people into an atrocity-producing situation where enemy and civilian are
commingled, where the 'other side' is dehumanized, we cannot be
surprised." ...
Merry Christmas!
