A Call For Help

From an original post here.

I have a project and I need the help of a few bloggers to make it work.

2,995 bloggers.

September 11, 2006 will mark the 5-year anniversary of the attacks that killed 2,996 innocent people on American soil. A few months ago I started wondering what, if anything, I would write in my blog that day. A remembrance? A tribute? Anything I came up with seemed shallow, cliché, not enough.

About a week after the attacks the president ordered all flags returned to full-staff. This seemed too soon to me. A common practice for other deaths had been one day per victim. But when I realized that this would mean flying the flag at half-staff for over sixteen years (remember in those first days the death toll estimate was much higher) I realized that that sort of symbol wouldn’t be healthy for the country. Even with the actual death toll, one day at half-staff for each victim wouldn’t see the flag raised until November 24, 2009

But any idea I came up with gave me the same pause: Nothing I could do could possibly do tribute to all those people. And in the last five years I’ve heard precious little about the victims, but I’ve heard the names of the guilty over and over.

So here’s my proposal
I’d like 2,995 blogging volunteers to help me with a tribute to the victims of 9/11. If you’d like to participate, you’ll be assigned the name of someone who was murdered on September 11, 2001. Then on September 11, 2006 you’ll post your own tribute to that person. It can be anything you want it to be: a photo tribute, an essay, a remembrance, a poem…it’s up to you. Then link back to a page I will create which will give the names of all 2,996 victims and links to the blogs that will remember them that day.

But, and this is critical, I don’t want any of us to remember the murderers. Do not refer to the terrorists. Or their organization. Or their goals. Let them fade into nothing. Let them be forgotten. Remember those worth remembering.

What help do I need?
A lot.

I need 2,995 bloggers who are willing to participate for one day.

I need people to pass on this message to others, because 2,995 people don’t read this blog.

I need a name for this goofy thing.

I need some sort of graphic or banner we can all drop in our entries.

And I need suggestions as to how to make this work.

Anyone game?

I don't know about y'all, but I think this is a great idea! I've already agreed to be a part, and I'd encourage all of you to do it also.
I really don't know that much about the details because it's not me doing this.
But I would like to say one thing. This is not political. September 11th was not a political event, and don't sign up for this with the intention of making a political "tribute."

Now what are you still doing here? Get on over there and sign up already! ;)

Is this real?

I know I said I wouldn't be blogging but this is just too good to pass up. Check this out. Is it a parody? Could it be real? Did Peter Arnett get a new job?
Either way, it's funny.

Short blogging hiatus...

I'm sorry I haven't been around to all your sites lately. It's been kind of crazy for us lately (who knew summer could be so busy?) so I'll be taking a bit of a break until I have more time to put into it. I'll still try to post once a week or so, and hopefully come around to your sites more often!
Hope y'all have a great summer!

p.s. Did you hear about this? Should be great seeing the Liberals try to marginalize this one...

I think this should just say, "you might be from the Southeast"...

Sorry, the actual blogthing wouldn't show up, so here's the link:

http://www.blogthings.com/alabama.html

You Know You're From Alabama When...
You have a party or a barbeque whenever Alabama plays Auburn in football.

You go to Gulf Shores every summer.

You call the Atlanta Braves baseball team "us" like they're actually from Alabama.

You would much rather visit Florida than California.

You don't "take", you "carry" or "tote"... as in "You want me to carry you down to the 7-11?"

A soft drink isn't soda, cola, or pop, it's Coke.

You call it a "buggy" and not a shopping cart.

You've said "fixin' to," "might could," or "usetacould" during the last week.

Someone you know has used a football schedule to plan their wedding date.

You know the meaning of the phrase "Fobbed again."

You can properly pronounce Eufaula, Opelika, Bayou La Batre, and Oneonta.

The Talladega 500 is the biggest sporting event of any sort during the entire year.

You know exactly what chitlins and mountain oysters are, and you know someone who eats them anyway.

You think that people who complain about the humidity in other states are sissies.

You aren't surprised to find rental movies, groceries, ammunition and bait all in the same store.

You've missed a wedding or a funeral to go to a football game.

Asian food is always "CHINESE" regardless of the fact that it may actually be Korean or Japanese or Thai

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Alabama.

War Eagle! And it's "Buy- you - luh - bat - tree", by the way. And yes, the Mountain Oysters thing is right, too.

Bush Approval Up

Once again, I don't put the greatest faith in polls, but this is encouraging.

NEW YORK — A new FOX News poll finds that Americans overwhelmingly see Iraq finalizing its government as a victory -- and most see the death of terrorist leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi that way as well. President George W. Bush’s job approval rating is out of the thirties for the first time since February and currently stands at 40 percent. In addition, there is widespread confidence the military will fully investigate allegations U.S. troops killed several civilians in Haditha, and a clear majority thinks almost all U.S. troops are treating Iraqi people with respect.
President Bush’s approval rating is up 5 percentage points to 40 percent this month, up from 35 percent approval in mid-May. Just over half of Americans disapprove (52 percent).

Now, we have the only poll that really matters coming up in just a few months. The GOP seems to be getting it together and I'm optimistic for the first time that it'll be a victory.

Now y'all know I'm a member of the Soul Patrol and everything...

But this I don't get.

'American Idol' Taylor Hicks People Magazine's 'Hottest Bachelor'

Hehehe. Alright, calling all bachelorettes with a thing for spastic gray-haired guys...

P.S. I shall be back to politics soon... I promise...

Lawyer: Karl Rove Won't Be Charged in CIA Leak Case

No words necessary

Hat tip: Michelle Malkin.

Republican U.S. Rep. Marilyn Musgrave's re-election campaign was already heated, and it just got smelly as well: Her staff accused a Democratic activist Thursday of leaving an envelope full of dog feces at Musgrave's Greeley office.
Musgrave spokesman Shaun Kenney said someone stuffed the envelope through the mail slot in the door on May 31 and then sped away in a car. Kenney said most of the preprinted return address was blacked out, but staffers used the nine-digit ZIP code to trace it to Kathleen Ensz, a Weld County Democratic volunteer.

Hehe. Now it's spilling over. More proof that unhinged lefties are full of... well, you know.

What character do you want to be when you grow up?

That's what ABFreedom tagged me with. So anyway, I have to figure out a sitcom character I want to be when I grow up. Hmm...
Does Matlock count as a sitcom? Anyway, that's the best I could come up with. You know... a lawyer, always gettin' the bad guys, fighting for the underdog... Yeah, that's pretty good.

Okay, let's see. I will tag...
Little Miss Chatterbox, Patrick and JGF.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi Killed in Bombing Raid

BAGHDAD, Iraq — Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Al Qaeda in Iraq leader who led a brutal insurgency that included homicide bombings, kidnappings and beheadings, was killed in an airstrike on a building north of Baghdad, U.S. and Iraqi officials announced Thursday.

Wow. One more thing "they" said wouldn't happen, one more positive step, and one more victory for our troops.
No, I don't think this'll magically "fix" Iraq, but this is very, very good.

Bush Backs Constitutional Amendment on Marriage

WASHINGTON — Marriage between a man and woman is the "most enduring and important human institution" and one that should be protected, President Bush said Monday in a speech offering his support to a constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage nationwide.

Hmm.
Well, it goes without saying that I'm against gay marriage.
But still, I'm a little worried whenever someone sets a precedent of Federal powers controlling the States. Yes, activist judges are a huge problem and need to be stopped.
Marriage should not be allowed to be redefined.
But just think:
do we really want the Democrats coming in power(and I think we all know it's a strong possibility either in the midterms or in '08) and passing an amendment in favor of abortion?
I'm not violently opposed to Bush on this - but I'm more than a little concerned.

Some questions

Well, we all know the midterm elections are heating up, so I wanted y'all's opinion.

First:
What's most likely to sway your vote in the midterms? Immigration? Gay-rights issues? Taxes?

Will anything actually be serious enough that you will vote for the opposite party?

Will you vote? If so, for what party?

Finally...

What best describes your opinion of the President and his performance? Great? Terrible? Don't really care?

Now for my answers:
Well, obviously I won't be voting till '08! But what will be most likely to affect my support is immigration and how it's handled, the other biggest issue, being, of course, the war on terror.

But no, none of that will make me not vote - when I can.

Unless a powerful, more Conservative third-party magically rises, of if Zell Miller runs against another Democrat, I will always vote Republican.

Finally, I guess my feeling on Bush is bored, most of the time, frankly. His first term was very impressive, but now, he hasn't seemed to have done much of anything lately. I don't dislike him, but let's just say he probably wouldn't get my vote in a primary!

Now - let me know what you think!
