What do you think of the President's speech/overall plan? I'm way too tired to research everything or try to liveblog. But I want to see what y'all think.

I think it's way past time to step up force in Iraq. We can't win a war that we are afraid to use adequate force in.
But, like I said, I don't know all about the plan, so I won't go in detail right now =)
And, give me opinions please ^^

catering to younger voters.

So, I guess we all know the butcher of Baghdad is dead, finally. But I noticed something when watching network reports of his death.
The first thing I noticed was a NBC Reporter's righteous pronouncement that "we will not be showing the execution video." That's nice. Where was the restraint during, say, the aftermath of the Tsunami?

Meanwhile, CNN seems to show Saddam more respect than they do American troops...

You know, personally, I don't want to see his body or his execution, but what makes him deserving of any respect? Just wondering.

Really. I'm not. Life's been crazy, plus ever since I joined the little thing called myspace, I haven't been spending much productive time online!

But anyway, that reminds me of what I wanted to blog about. It may be a first for me, that is, a long post. So be patient.

Over the past few months I’ve heard a lot of discussion about the social website myspace.com, by law enforcement, citizens and all sorts of talking-head experts on TV. Problem is, most of those people, expert as they may be, probably have about as much idea about myspace as my Mom.

Actually, she probably knows more, since I helped her get one recently.

I’m not putting down law enforcement, but I would just like to clear some things up and offer my own, unprofessional list of how to stay safe in the myspace world. Remember, I am actually sixteen years old, and unlike most people talking these days, I actually have one.
So read on.

#1: This is very important - MAKE YOUR PROFILE PRIVATE. That’s right.
Why don’t you, right now, go ahead and type in my name (those of you who may know it^^) in the myspace search.
What did you find?

Since there aren’t many of me out there, I assume you found yourself at a page with my picture, age and hometown (which I changed to simply say my state's name, another thing)and a message telling you "This user must add you as a friend for you to see their profile."
While we’re on the subject, I should admit I’m not as safe as I can be, either. Did I mention one can put up a generic display pic (say, anime) change their age to 99 if they wish, and remove their real location altogether?
It’s really very easy to make your profile private and secure.
Now I know it’s hard to resist the urge to let perfect strangers read your phone number and browse what you think of your crush and where you had dinner last Friday, but come on people, you just have to give some things up.

#2: Don’t accept any random friend request just because you’re so excited to see the "New friend requests!!" link. I mean really. If it’s that important to get 101 friends, go add Kelly Clarkson. But make sure it’s really Kelly, and not "kellyfangurl1." See, these rules really are simple.

#3 is really a continuation of number one. You know that hot guy who says he’s in the army, just moved to your town, and wants to get to know you better? Get. Real.
The "deny friend request" button is very easy to press. Go on, try it.

#4: Myspace chat Personally, I just stay away from them - I mean, after awhile, watching convos like
"You’re a F***ing d**k!
No YOU are!
No YOU are!" gets a little old. But I digress.
Once, when within two minutes of wandering into a "News and politics" (yes News and Politics) room, and thirty two year-old "Boris" was complimenting my looks, I did something revolutionary. I exited. Yep. That red "X" up there in the corner is there for a reason. Use it.

Now, I could go on and on about my safety rules for myspace (I feel practically parental!), but most of you are either bored or lost, or maybe both.
In fact, chances are, if you’ve gotten this far, you’re too old to have any clue what I’m talking about. So I have a suggestion: get a myspace.
It’s really easy to do, and no, you don’t have to add your kids, just get one. Try learning a bit about it before you talk about it.

And to all you people who have myspaces, just take this morsel of wonderful advice. Use your brain. It’s surprisingly easy. Just use it.

See? Who knew I was a self-help guru? ^_^

My gosh, I watched the speech on Fox, and is it just me, or does this guy seem like he is still running for President?
He is in a serious need of a reality check, because all his arguments(spliced in-between his never ending I'm-such-a-war-hero comments) seem a little old and outdated. Like he's reading old New York Times editorials when he makes his speeches.
I sure wish he runs for President in '08. That would be great.

Clinton's Meltdown

What's your opinion of this? I won't try to debate all his points, because that would take too long and besides I just don't want to. I could see any of that any day on any leftwing website.

I must admit, it is funny to hear a former president tossing phrases like "neo-con" and "right-wing hit job."

I don't think the outburst was "real" - because face it, nothing Clinton does is real. I think it was coolly calculated, but just a little stupid.
What was supposed to make him come across as righteously indignant really made him seem like a pompous jerk.

I am terribly sorry if this counts as plagarism of some of the hilarious "interviews" I have read, but I had a light-bulb moment after seeing yet another Muslim call for the Pope to apologize.

Me: "Excuse me, Mr. Ahmed, you promised me an interview, remember?"

"Yes?"

Me: "Not all of you! Cripes. Which Ahmed was it?"
Ahmed: "It was me, you stupid infidel. Now get this interview over with so I can finish burning the pope!"

Me: "Okay. Now, Mr. Ahmed, I need to understand. What makes you so angry?"

For Brian Novotny, it's a happy one too, because just last week he's become engaged to Theresa Thomas, a registered nurse in the breast cancer center of St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan.

Slain Tenn. Pastor's Wife Freed on Bail
SELMER, Tenn. — A minister's wife accused of shooting her husband to death after an argument over money was released from jail Tuesday on $750,000 bail.
Mary Winkler, 32, is charged with killing Matthew Winkler on March 22 at their church parsonage in Selmer, about 80 miles east of Memphis.
She was arrested the following day in Alabama, where she had taken the couple's three young daughters, and has been behind bars on murder charges since then.
Her trial is scheduled for October.

Monday night, Fidel temporarily relinquished his presidential powers to Raul, telling Cubans in a letter read on television that he underwent surgery. The Cuban leader said he had suffered gastrointestinal bleeding, apparently due to stress from recent public appearances in Argentina and Cuba.

Only I think Raul could be worse. People are saying this could trigger a revolution, and you almost can't help but hope for it.
How can the world have allowed this to go on so long? That's what I wanna know.

4. Johnny Depp and how sexy he's supposed to be. 'Nuff said.

5. HOW ANYONE CAN WANT HILLARY AS PRESIDENT.

7. Sorry if any of y'all are fans, but how in the world Cowboy Troy is considered country. He. Raps. It ain't too hard to tell the difference.

Rockets Fired From Lebanon Rain Down on Israel

JERUSALEM — Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday the fighting in Lebanon would end when Hezbollah guerrillas freed two captured soldiers, rocket attacks on Israel stopped and the Lebanese army deployed along the border.

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip — An Israeli warplane bombed the Palestinian Foreign Ministry early Thursday, collapsing part of the structure and causing widespread damage in the area.
It was Israel's second use of a huge bomb in Gaza City in as many days in its two-week offensive to pressure Palestinian militants to release a captured Israeli soldier. At least 23 Palestinians were killed in Gaza on Wednesday.

Israeli jets dropped two bombs on the runway at the Rayak air base in the eastern Bekaa Valley, damaging it, police said. There were no reports of casualties.

Good. It's quite obvious that Israel is without allies in the Middle East, and really across most of the world. If they don't take action like this, if they're too afraid of offending someone, Israel really will be wiped off the face of the earth.

MUMBAI, India — Indian police were conducting a nationwide manhunt on Tuesday for a series of terrorist bombings carried out at rush hour on Mumbai's crowded transit system. The attacks reportedly left nearly 150 dead and at least 439 injured.
Police reportedly were carrying out raids across the country following the explosions, presumably in search of suspects. One television report said a suspect was in custody.
The explosions, which occurred as commuters were returning home from work during the evening rush, tore apart locomotives and scattered bodies around the tracks, as shown on Indian television.

With all this gleeful media outrage over alleged Iraq murders, I just wonder sometimes. Aren't we majorly missing the point here?
Yes, IF THIS HAPPENED, it's terrible, disgusting, inexcusable and deserves to be punished. But there's another side you'll never hear from the media.

First and foremost, these are allegations. Yes, if you can believe it, in the American system, someone is innocent until proven guilty. Remember Illario Pantano and that media frenzy? Yeah, well, in case you didn't hear, he was cleared of all charges, and these soldiers may well be, too. So keep that in mind, please.

Second, please tell me again, who's prosecuting these alleged crimes? Yeah, that's right, our eeevil military. If these guys truly are guilty, as the media is assuming(or maybe hoping, it would seem), then they will face justice.

Last of all, there are hundreds of thousands of troops in Iraq right now. These allegations are against an incredibly small number of troops.
Maybe it's because of how notoriously honorable American troops are normally, but nevertheless, it's maddening and hypocritical that good work every day by our troops goes unnoticed, but when a tiny minority gets accused of something, media frenzy happens.

Like I said, if this happened, I don't think ANYONE in their right mind isn't revolted by it. But it's also revolting that no one is willing to give those who fight for our freedom a chance or even the benefit of the doubt.

I have a project and I need the help of a few bloggers to make it work.

2,995 bloggers.

September 11, 2006 will mark the 5-year anniversary of the attacks that killed 2,996 innocent people on American soil. A few months ago I started wondering what, if anything, I would write in my blog that day. A remembrance? A tribute? Anything I came up with seemed shallow, cliché, not enough.

About a week after the attacks the president ordered all flags returned to full-staff. This seemed too soon to me. A common practice for other deaths had been one day per victim. But when I realized that this would mean flying the flag at half-staff for over sixteen years (remember in those first days the death toll estimate was much higher) I realized that that sort of symbol wouldn’t be healthy for the country. Even with the actual death toll, one day at half-staff for each victim wouldn’t see the flag raised until November 24, 2009

But any idea I came up with gave me the same pause: Nothing I could do could possibly do tribute to all those people. And in the last five years I’ve heard precious little about the victims, but I’ve heard the names of the guilty over and over.

So here’s my proposal
I’d like 2,995 blogging volunteers to help me with a tribute to the victims of 9/11. If you’d like to participate, you’ll be assigned the name of someone who was murdered on September 11, 2001. Then on September 11, 2006 you’ll post your own tribute to that person. It can be anything you want it to be: a photo tribute, an essay, a remembrance, a poem…it’s up to you. Then link back to a page I will create which will give the names of all 2,996 victims and links to the blogs that will remember them that day.

But, and this is critical, I don’t want any of us to remember the murderers. Do not refer to the terrorists. Or their organization. Or their goals. Let them fade into nothing. Let them be forgotten. Remember those worth remembering.

What help do I need?
A lot.

I need 2,995 bloggers who are willing to participate for one day.

I need people to pass on this message to others, because 2,995 people don’t read this blog.

I need a name for this goofy thing.

I need some sort of graphic or banner we can all drop in our entries.

And I need suggestions as to how to make this work.

I really don't know that much about the details because it's not me doing this.
But I would like to say one thing. This is not political. September 11th was not a political event, and don't sign up for this with the intention of making a political "tribute."

Once again, I don't put the greatest faith in polls, but this is encouraging.

NEW YORK — A new FOX News poll finds that Americans overwhelmingly see Iraq finalizing its government as a victory -- and most see the death of terrorist leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi that way as well. President George W. Bush’s job approval rating is out of the thirties for the first time since February and currently stands at 40 percent. In addition, there is widespread confidence the military will fully investigate allegations U.S. troops killed several civilians in Haditha, and a clear majority thinks almost all U.S. troops are treating Iraqi people with respect.
President Bush’s approval rating is up 5 percentage points to 40 percent this month, up from 35 percent approval in mid-May. Just over half of Americans disapprove (52 percent).

Now, we have the only poll that really matters coming up in just a few months. The GOP seems to be getting it together and I'm optimistic for the first time that it'll be a victory.

Bush Backs Constitutional Amendment on Marriage

Hmm.
Well, it goes without saying that I'm against gay marriage.
But still, I'm a little worried whenever someone sets a precedent of Federal powers controlling the States. Yes, activist judges are a huge problem and need to be stopped.
Marriage should not be allowed to be redefined.
But just think:
do we really want the Democrats coming in power(and I think we all know it's a strong possibility either in the midterms or in '08) and passing an amendment in favor of abortion?
I'm not violently opposed to Bush on this - but I'm more than a little concerned.

Well, we all know the midterm elections are heating up, so I wanted y'all's opinion.

First:
What's most likely to sway your vote in the midterms? Immigration? Gay-rights issues? Taxes?

Will anything actually be serious enough that you will vote for the opposite party?

Will you vote? If so, for what party?

Finally...

What best describes your opinion of the President and his performance? Great? Terrible? Don't really care?

Now for my answers:
Well, obviously I won't be voting till '08! But what will be most likely to affect my support is immigration and how it's handled, the other biggest issue, being, of course, the war on terror.

But no, none of that will make me not vote - when I can.

Unless a powerful, more Conservative third-party magically rises, of if Zell Miller runs against another Democrat, I will always vote Republican.

Finally, I guess my feeling on Bush is bored, most of the time, frankly. His first term was very impressive, but now, he hasn't seemed to have done much of anything lately. I don't dislike him, but let's just say he probably wouldn't get my vote in a primary!

FOX News Poll: Public Supports NSA Phone Records Database

NEW YORK — A FOX News poll finds that a majority of the public supports the National Security Agency intelligence program that collects data on domestic phone calls and analyzes calling patterns, and nearly half think the program is more likely to help catch terrorists than hurt law-abiding Americans.

So all this nonsense from the media about America turning into a Fascist state, BUSH SPYING ON AMERICANS!!, They-are-watching-you, etc. wasn't taken seriously by most people?

About the Da Vinci Code movie?
I haven't seen it, and I don't plan to, but here's how I feel about it.

Since I'm not Catholic, I'm not particularly bothered by the church's portrayal. Especially since the plot easily qualifies as ridiculous fantasy.
While I am bothered by the accusations against Jesus and the basis of Christianity, again, maybe if the plot were a little more believable, it would bother me more.

So, am I going to picket and protest outside movie theaters? Don't be silly.
Will I go see it? Of course not.

What's your take? Are you outraged, kind of apathetic, or can't wait to see it?
Do you think it's an outright attack on Christianity, or just another one of the ridiculous stories that comes out every so often?

I was browsing online last night and heard that a song off his newest CD, "White Trash With Money" was, to quote Wikipedia,
"...railing against abortion, violence against children, and the curbs on prayer in American public schools."

So I listened to it on Napster, and believe me, that description doesn't do this beautiful ballad justice. If you have iTunes or Napster, I would definitely recommend looking it up. I know just reading the lyrics isn't the same, but here they are,

You might be wondering why I'm choosing the Dixie Chicks. After all, that whole hoopla was quite awhile ago. Well, I'll get around to the point in a minute.

Remember the controversy? For all you non-country music fans, here's a recap.

In March 2003, lead singer Natalie Maines(center) said, between songs during a concert at the Shepherd's Bush Empire theatre in London:

"Just so you know, we're ashamed the President of the United States is from Texas."

When - surprise! - country music's core base was very upset, to say the least(and I realize some took things way to far), the Dixie Chicks did the only logical thing and posed for the above picture.
When that inexplicably didn't make their fans happier, the Chicks spent a couple of months inciting controversy with a lame non-apology, several news-magazine appearances, and a personal attack on super-popular Toby Keith.
Shockingly, fans were still upset, and many stations still wouldn't play the Chicks' music.

So, in September 2003, singer Maguire said, "We don't feel a part of the country scene any longer, it can't be our home any more." and, "...so we now consider ourselves part of the big rock 'n' roll family."

Hee. Hee.

In case you missed it, since then Kid Rock, Cheryl Crow, Sting, and Jon Bon Jovi have all released country songs. Country is huge. The Dixie Chicks are not.
All I've heard from them since then is that they did a "vote for change" tour.

Now, fast forward to the present. Just recently, the Dixie Chicks released a new country single, "Not Ready To Make Nice." Lyrics inlude,

"I’m not ready to make nice/I’m not ready to back down/I’m still mad as hell and I don’t have time to go round and round and round/It’s too late to make it right/I probably wouldn’t if I could/‘Cause I’m mad as hell/Can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should"

Well. If you can believe it, this one ain't exactly being welcomed with open arms. (60 Minutes is troubled by this, I hear...) I've even heard some liken the snubbing of this by many country stations to the ominous "McCarthyism" and call it blacklisting.

Baloney.

The Dixie Chicks made a huge blunder. Speaking out against the President is one thing, doing it in a time of war is another, and doing it in a time of war in front of a foreign audience is just reprehensible.

Fine. We all make mistakes. But, instead of recognizing that, the Chicks snubbed country and its fans and ignored both for awhile. Now, after flopping at rock, and as country music is incredibly popular, the Chicks come back with the same uppity, better-than-thou(Martie Maguire complained about the "redneck theme" in country music) liberal nonsense as always and want the fans who are blasted in their single to listen to their music?

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

WASHINGTON — Democratic chairman Howard Dean mischaracterized his party's platform on gay rights in an interview courting evangelicals, then set the record straight Thursday when an advocacy group called him on it.
Dean told Christian Broadcasting Network News that the 2004 Democratic platform declares "marriage is between a man and a woman" — just one of the points he made in reaching out to religious conservatives who are largely hostile to the party.

Soul Patrol! My favorite American Idol is Taylor Hicks. He seems to be one of the most genuine, he's a great performer and singer, a genuine Southerner, and besides, he gives all those who can't dance without looking "like a drunk Dad at a wedding" hope!
(And if you feel like wasting time, play the Taylor dancing game. LOL.)

"Simple Pleasures"

1: Watching American Idol (Hey, that counts, doesn't it?)

3: Cooking. (Seriously! But only when my brothers aren't harrassing me about when it'll be done!)

And, last but not least, a short story that I hope I don't bore the heck out of you guys with. Yes, it's true, every word. Ever heard the phrase "be careful what you wish for?" Uh huh.

Well, anyway, my church youth group and I went on a nice weekend camping trip up in the woods. (Did I mention woods? Like, hundreds of TALL, STRAIGHT trees above you.)
To jump back a bit, our area has been very, very dry for a long time. No storms all summer and very little rain, if any.

So, anyhow, all our tents were set up in a nice little circle under the TREES that first day when we noticed it was getting cloudy. And windy. And some quiet thunder off in the distance.
Now fast-forward. It was nine o' clock or so and all the girls were squished in one tent doing those productive, mature things girls do when they all get together, and the tent started - how do I describe it? - FLOODING. Yeah, that's good. Airbeds became air rafts, etc.

We had hauled most of our stuff into the the vans, eaten some soggy grilled-cheese sandwiches, awakened our camping neighbors and gotten soaked when the storm passed on over. Considering the other tents were pretty much floating downstream by now, all the girls squished into the one dry girls' tent and tried to sleep.

And THAT'S when the electrical storm came over us. The thunder right over our heads was quite deafening, but I'm pretty sure my tentmates' screaming drowned it out.
When the lighting started shaking hands with the lake we had a sudden enlightenment and decided that nylon tents probably wouldn't help much. The vans were sounding better all the time, especially when the weather radio informed us that a tornado had formed and was moving over our area.

For the record, it's no fun dodging lighting in bare feet and pajamas while running through 3 inches of water.
It's less fun sleeping six to a van and realizing at 3 a.m. that your indoor lights won't go off and yes, that bath house is REALLY far away.

However, we all survived the night, and dried out just fine in the morning. In fact, the weather was so nice, I got a beee-utiful sunburn all over my face and arms.
Oh, well. No one's fault, and still a pretty nice camping trip all in all.
But - a word of warning. If you're ever in a tent that's flooding in the middle of the night... just go to the car.

Rove is giving up oversight of policy development to focus more on politics

Just over a year ago, Rove was

Yes, I know this ain't great. Yes, I know the Democrats are rejoicing, and will be for quite awhile.

But... I'm still kind of glad McClellan's gone. He seems like a pretty nice guy, but face it, not the greatest press secretary. He just didn't seem too able to take tough (a.k.a. obnoxious) questions without looking like a deer in the headlights.
One of the possibile replacements mentioned was Tony Snow, so I'm crossing my fingers for that one!

As for Karl Rove, well, I'm not too happy about this, but maybe it's for the best. I don't think Rove is "Bush's brain", but Bush has been doing some pretty stupid things lately, and maybe some new advisors will help.

Rove was not fired, and did not resign. He was reassigned, that's all.
And after all, now the name "Karl Rove" won't be able to be synonymous with Bush's pure eeevil...

Yes, this isn't great. But is the world coming to an end? No.

I don't usually scream at the TV, but last night was an exception. Apparently I was very bored, or stupid, or both, and I was watching CBS news' '60 Minutes'. The subject was an interesting one, the gender imbalance in China as a result of their strict "one child" policy, but it was only a little while before I was furious at the hypocrisy.

You see, in China, boys are far preferred over girls. Add the "one child" policy, the availability of ultrasounds and abortions, and there you have it. Today in China, there are approx. 120 males born out of every 100 females.

Lesley Stahl interviewed Zhao Baige, Vice Minister of the Family Planning Commission:
From the article:

Ultrasound machines are inexpensive in China; they cost about $360 and, as
60 Minutes saw, they are small enough to be hidden in a closet or even in the
trunk of a car to do scans on the run.
And that's made it difficult to crack down.
We showed the minister some Chinese newspaper photos of a van parked in a
Beijing suburb doing ultrasounds in the back.
"We need a more enforcement," Zhao said.

"Well, one of the ways that this imbalance came about is through abortion. Millions and millions and millions of abortions. Why didn't the government clamp down on that?"
Stahl asked.
"Let me go to another point," the vice minister replied.
Her "other point" was that China’s abortion rate is going down, but she didn't explain why abortions are still free and legal right up to
the ninth month, even as the boy-girl imbalance grows.

Am I here right now?? Abortion can be used for gender selection in America, too, and we have millions of abortions every year.

Yet, when Roberts and Alito were nominated, even though they don't make five votes, CBS was one of the networks greatly concerned about their "respect of precedent", and how they would protect "woman's rights."

So, is abortion only a "woman's right" and "precedent" in America? Or is Life only important for economic reasons?
Maybe CB.S. is just plain hypocritical.

What's up with Bush? Part two: The negative

Okay, as promised. The negative. I still support Bush about 60/40, because I truly do believe the good he's done outweighs the bad.
Still, I have serious issues with many of his decisions, and sometimes it seems like we don't even have a Republican in office.

Of course, I have to mention the border. Recently I was chatting on the phone with a friend who lives in south Texas. Her town is more than 90% Hispanic and Spanish speaking. I asked if some were illegal. She laughed, "I think they're all illegal! They come in, we send them back and then they come back the next day!"
This is just a micro of what's happening all over in border states, and even not in border states.
I really don't fault someone for wanting to come to America.
If someone wants to come and work, that's great! Just come legally.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out Bush's stance on this. His "comprehensive" solutions seem like the Dems' - lots of talk and no action. A guest worker program will not stop illegal immigration, nor will amnesty. Closing the border will. But for some reason, Bush will not do that. Surely he knows his base is bigger than any Hispanic vote this could somehow garner.

Fiscal issues.

A recent "Mallard Fillmore" cartoon sums it all up.
Mallard asks Bush, "How do you plan to mollify Democrats who are angry over your SCOTUS nominations?" Bush responds, "Easy, I'll just continue to spend like a drunken Democrat."

I don't fault Bush for his initial response to Katrina. The total idiotic incompetence and inexperience of the State and Local authorities don't mix with the (and I can speak from experience) sluggish bureaucracy of FEMA. I think Bush handled the initial part as well as was possible.
But his later response was typical of his fiscal policies.
I'm reminded of the Alan Jackson song "Repair Blues":

Don't be downhearted, I can fix it for ya' sonny. It won't take too long, it'll just take money.

Bush needs a real plan for Katrina cleanup, and he needs to stop throwing money at it. (Like the time FEMA gave everyone who said they were an evacuee a thousand-dollar credit card.)
And try talking about Mississippi, too, by the way!

Same for all fiscal issues. You can't spend like Clinton and cut taxes like a Republican. Either raise taxes (nooo!) or cut spending. You can't do have it both ways.

Iraq.

I support the war, it's reasons, and it's condition now. But...
the President played politics on this from the start. If you're trying to go into a country, don't spend six months talking about it. He gave the enemy plenty of time to get rid of the weapons and, by doing so, discredit his reasons for war.

Let's face it: Saddam's troops were a joke. But that doesn't mean Bush should have treated them as such. An initial powerful blast quickly turned into commanders unwilling to use the muscle to stop a problem before it got bigger.

Pro-life issues.

Really, I don't think Bush has done a bad job. But this pussyfoot talk of creating a "culture of life" is really getting on my nerves. No, you change laws, and then you change minds.

Those are my main objections to Bush. There have been some major bumps along the way(Harriet Miers, Dubai Ports deal...) but the main issues are what I just mentioned.

Like before, you're free to debate if you keep it clean and civil.

What's up with Bush? Part one: The positive

There has been somewhat of a fued between come of my Conservative blogging friends over Bush support, Republican/ Conservative loyalty, etc., and I still find myself split on this one.
So, I'll do two posts. My next one will focus on the negative.

But now, in defense of George Bush: my reasons why I still support him (most of the time!)

How could I not mention this? September 11, 2001 - the worst terrorist attack in the history of our nation.
I think I wasn't the only one to be incredibly grateful and relieved that Al Gore was not occupying the office of Commander in Chief.
George Bush - I believe - did an excellent job of handling the crisis and the aftermath -
for once he did not look like a nervous guy reading from a script.
He made short work of dispensing the Taliban. Other nations, I believe, started to take notice.

Then Iraq. Although I could criticize how it was handled, I must save it for the next post. Notwithstanding mistakes, I believe Saddam Hussein had to be taken care of. I just can't believe that someone as crazy as Saddam would hesitate to use against us what he had already used against his own people. Yes, it could have been North Korea, or Iran. Their dictators are horrible despots also. But I cannot think of any of them who have liquidated mass sections of their populations with WMDs.
I believe Saddam Hussein did have weapons, and that he would have used them against us, and that he was connected with Al Quaida, one way or another.

Perhaps the only admirable thing to be said about his fiscal policies: Tax cuts. Bush has cut some of the monstrous taxes put on us by Clinton, which must be admired.

The SCOTUS. Obviously, mistakes have been made, and I really would have liked to see Janice Rogers Brown nominated. But, he didn't double-cross us and nominate a Souter, so for that he deserves an A+.

Pro-life issues: While not perfect, he has done a good job of standing up for life. He's unabashedly against stem-cell research, and has rolled back some of the Clinton funding.

The other 2 major positive things in the world that I can think of -
Victor Yuschenko, and Lebanon - while he may not have been directly involved, could he have played a part?

Well, that's my list. Comments are open for debate, as long as you are civil and keep it clean.

I've noticed something. Some of ABC's reporters have blogs now. (The other networks' probably do too, but I'm just too tired to look now.)

I wouldn't have even bothered to look except - okay, I admit it! - I wanted to know what Jake Tapper said about meeting Taylor Hicks. (Hicks was "unrefined", by the way.)

Honestly, that's about all they're worth, too.
I know some contain really useful and intelligent facts.

The Afghan powers were obviously looking for an easy way out of this and I applaud them for not just declaring him insane. It was officially because of a "lack of evidence", yes, but they've shown they care about public opinion - something not particularly important to the Taliban!

Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, the U.S. military spokesman, said the hostages were freed from a house in western Baghdad in an operation that began at 8 a.m. local time and was initiated by intelligence provided by a person taken into custody several hours earlier.

Hmm... I guess hostages being freed just isn't as exciting.

I did one of these awhile back, and I figured I should again.
So here goes:

#1: The obvious: How do you think Iraq is going? Is it really going as well as we're told? Is it really going as badly as we're told?

#2: What's your opinion of Bush so far? Good, bad, just okay?

#3: Who do you think will win most seats in the midterms? Who do you want to win?

Okay, my answers.
#1: Neither, really. I think mistakes have been made, and the situation is far from perfect, but I also don't believe the doomsday cries from the media. If you just put it in perspective with any other war from history, suddenly 3 years and 2000 deaths aren't all that bad.

#2: Hmm... I go back and forth. Let me just say, it's irritating that Bush turned into a complete RINO on fiscal issues and the border. But there are things I like and support him on, namely most of how he's fought the war on terror. So I guess it would be okay.

#3: That's a hard one. I think as long as Democrats keep up their attitude they've been showing, it'll be an easy one for Republicans. But... Republicans have to unite and stop being afraid to do anything before the elections.

Now... Tell me what you think!

About the man facing death for converting to Christianity.

KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan man who allegedly converted from Islam to Christianity is being prosecuted in a Kabul court and could be sentenced to death, a judge said Sunday.
The defendant, Abdul Rahman, was arrested last month after his family went to the police and accused him of becoming a Christian, Judge Ansarullah Mawlavezada told the Associated Press in an interview. Such a conversion would violate the country's Islamic laws.

How terrible. Afghanistan should be free, not following in the footsteps of the inquisition. Whatever you do, do something!

KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan man who allegedly converted from Islam to Christianity is being prosecuted in a Kabul court and could be sentenced to death, a judge said Sunday.

Okay, two points here.

One: Where is Bush? I like Bush, and Afghanistan so far has been a shining example of his philosophy. He'll lose credibility fast if he ignores this one, though. This can't happen - Afghanistan is supposed to be Islamic, yet free.

Second: This bunch never had any credibility anyway, but where is Amnesty International? The ACLU? The mainstream press? CAIR? Femenists?
They must be preoccupied defending with Islamic terrorists at Gitmo.

Well, I don't totally agree with you.
In the story you are referring to, I think the man was punished for
a) being deceptive and
b) disobeying God's plan and doing things his way.
A lot of the Biblical language comes from culture.
In Bible times, children represented security, blessings, and affluence.
That being said, there's a wide definition of "birth control". I do NOT support the morning after pill, nor do I as a Christian support umarried people using birth control instead of abstinince!

But, this still begs the question, "Where is the civil debate this country was founded on?"
